Just when we thought things couldn’t look more bleak, mortgage scammers are slithering from under their rocks. Look out California, seems you’re the ones targeted most.
Law enforcement officials say these mortgage scams are being reported more and more often. And the most noticeable area, California. The Department of Real Estate has reported a 400% rise in this type of activity. A year ago records showed they had 10 open cases a year. This spring that number escalated to 750. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder stated that the FBI’s “rescue scam” cases are 400% from 5 years ago.
